This is Slick, So Fo Real Productions Real Beats For Real Artists. I'm continuing a series I've been doing on lead vocal mixing. This is how I mix and if you like the way it sounds, I can teach you how to get that sound out of your own set up. In the previous videos I talked about gating, compression, and EQ. Today I'm going to talk about effects, that's the reverbs, echoes, and the delays that I've added to get the vocal to sound really pretty.
'Nasty DLA' is the very first plug-in I used. This is a free plug-in. I like showing how to use free plug-ins because you can get really the same effects that you can using a plug-in that cost hundreds or thousands of dollars. That's not something they want you know, but im going to show you any way.
The first thing i did was add delay. This vocal has a bus on it, I have it what's called a 'bus' or a 'send'. Some people call it a 'send'. It is simply being sent to a copy of the vocal that's being sent to this delay plug-in. All you want to do guys is just go through these default settings and you just pick which ever one sounds good to you. I'll turn it up so you can hear it. I just have a washy ping pong effect going and I turn it down just to have it sit so that you don't really hear it, you just feel it.
Like, the goal here is you don't want it to get in the way of everything else going but you do want it to be there so you're at least able to feel the space . I use the word space because that is the goal out of using effects for me, is to give the vocal some space make it sound big. That is the next step and then in the next video I'll go into reverbs. I hope yall enjoyed it. Tag a friend and see you guys next time.
