In this day and age, information is EVERYWHERE! If you don’t know it, a few clicks later… and now you do. But now we’re faced with not knowing who to believe… what to believe.. Or even if there are ulterior motives behind the so-called “facts” we’re looking for.
This can especially be troubling for independent artists and entrepreneurs at large who are trying to learn about the world and make the best decisions from it. I’m here to offer my advice as the lead producer and manager of our own business going on 20 years now. I’ll call them the “7 Steps to Sanity”. These methods have allowed us to continue growth through the young days of the internet to now with billions of users (and websites lol).
1) Decide what you want.
2) Find the people that already have what you want.
3) Study them and only them.
4) Adapt their ways to your ways.
5) Test and see if it works.
6) Remember / Record what works and what doesn’t.
7) Revise your systems and try again, noting successes and failures.
It is important to do these steps in order. If you don’t do number 1, you won’t know who to look for in number 2, and you won’t know what information to take in and what to reject. If you do number 1 but not number 2, then you don’t know who to believe. You don’t want second-hand information… or information passed on by people that ‘heard’ this or ‘heard’ that. You want the information directly from the source, or as they say, directly out the “horse’s mouth”. This gives a better chance of that information staying true to form, instead of being exaggerated, miscommunicated, misinterpreted, diluted, or just flat out wrong lol.
Following these steps has helped our company succeed where literally 1000’s of others have failed. The same principles can be used by you as an artist.. a singer, songwriter, entertainer, lyricist, rapper, whatever your thing is. Because let’s be real, you are a business too! You have costs associated with getting your production and doing your marketing for shows, and you have your fans (the customers) to please so they will come back for more. The key is staying consistent with these steps. As they say… rinse and repeat! Much success to you!
