Hey Guys we're back in our series in how to get a great lead vocal mix and we're on the fourth video. We're still on EQ, how bout that. EQ is the fourth thing I added. I added an EQ before that but now I have another EQ on top of that. This pulg-in is also free you don't need expensive stuff to get the job done.
This EQ here I have a few things going on and I'm going to show it to you. The first thing here is I have a frequency rise at around 200. Why? Because she has a really nice rich vocal that I want to insentuate. Next what I wanted to do was turn up, actually I wanted to work on that boxyness sound that you usually hear and less experience mixes. This boxyness comes from usually you being in a bedroom or a very closed room that has a certain build up in frequency and this certain build up usually happens around the 500Hz catagory so im turning more of this down right here.
The next thing I did was turn up again her treble. I turned up everything above 1.6KHz. This is a shelf. I'm simply just turning up her treble and also turning up her presence at the same time. All this does is let you hear her voice really easily. I'm going to throw in a little secret. I may do a separate video on this. If you want to make sure you have the right levels on her treble, turning up her treble. Simply take your headphones off and I'll show you. Play the song and you'll hear her words in the headphones. If it sounds clear and you can actually hear what she's saying then you have it at a good level. If you can't hear what see's saying with you playing it, with the headphones off of your head, then you might want to turn that treble back up. That's a secret within a secret.
Put all those things together. You get. Then the next video I'll show you about the rest of the steps I did in order to get that vocal sounding really good and sounded nice and fresh and crispy clean and all those great adjatives. Just tag anybody you think is going to benifit from these teachings, things that took me years to learn on my own and I'm giving to you here in a few minutes. So you guys enjoy it and stay tune for more.
